Blackbaud's growth
in software development continues

When
companies need to solve their software problems, Blackbaud
Inc. can provide the solutions. The company has been in the
software development business for 20 years. With the focus
now on nonprofit companies, Blackbaud can deliver the quality
components to efficiently run any enterprise. The company
was founded in New York in 1981 and provided back-office software
to schools. By 1989 the company relocated to Charleston, S.C.,
and branched out to reach the entire gamut of nonprofit organizations
providing solutions in accounting, fund-raising and educational
tasks. Companies that benefit from their software include
hospitals, schools, zoos and performing arts.
The
company has more than 700 employees now and generates $100
million in revenue and services more than 12,000 clients nationally
and internationally. Jolie Logan, employment manager at Blackbaud,
specifies the products most popular at the company. "The Raiser's
Edge is a popular fund-raising software that Blackbaud has
developed. We also feature an accounting package and an educational
line."
When
Blackbaud was looking for a new location outside of New York,
Logan says they decided on Charleston for various reasons.
"New York was too expensive for the company to operate in
and too expensive for employees to live in." Charleston was
the best site for the growing company, due to its low overhead
cost to run a business. "We have better facilities for the
clients that come to our company for training," Logan points
out. "And the quality of life for the workers is better here."
The
job market in the state is very competitive, comparable to
the rest of the nation. "The tight labor market has led us
to recruiting nationwide," says Logan. A new advertising campaign
features employees dressed in business attire having fun on
the beach. "This is a new and creative campaign that we are
using to attract candidates," Logan points out.
At
Blackbaud there are technical and nontechnical positions available.
For technical people there are opportunities in program design,
software sales and quality assurance. If you are more interested
in nontechnical positions, there are openings in marketing,
administration and support staff. Logan finds that "Blackbaud
aggressively pushes the hiring process, usually making offers
within two to three weeks." If you're thinking about work,
and the beach keeps coming to mind, you should consider Blackbaud.
